Our 2018-2019 Season
In this brilliant and powerful drama, Sister Aloysius (a Bronx school principal) takes matters into her own hands when she suspects the young Father Flynn of improper relations with one of the male students.
Presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
It is suggested, though not required, that you prepare a short monologue that is in line with the character for which you are auditioning. Sides will also be provided and read. We are interested in seeing actors outside the suggested age ranges, if you are able to play in that range.
Character Breakdown (3 f, 1 m):
Sister Aloysius Beauvier, (F, 50’s – 60’s): The head nun and principal of St Nicholas Parish and School in the Bronx. Stern, rigid, and driven by a high sense of moral duty. She is also suspicious and cynical and has no tolerance for weakness.
Father Flynn, (M, 30’s – 40’s): From a working class background, articulate and personable, a Catholic priest at St. Nicholas. He is progressive and friendly—he prides himself on being approachable and amiable with the students at the parish.
Sister James, (F, 20’s - 30’s): A member of the Sisters of Charity in the Bronx and a new teacher at St. Nicholas. Young and idealistic she is passionate about teaching. Caught between duty and conflict between Sister Aloysius and Father Flynn.
Mrs. Muller, (F, African-American, 30’s – 40’s): An African-American woman, working class, the mother of Donald Muller, a new student at St. Nicholas and its first African American student. She’s a realist; weary and wary of the world.
